Ode to Myanmar.

A quiet village in Rakhine, abandoned for a while,

Is now the home of Buddhists who will greet you with a smile.

They’re happy that the long regime oppresses them no more,

But ask about the former residents and they get sore.

 

The former residents, you see, have all gone on vacation;

They found their health did not hold up at their old location.

They’re at a summer camp of sorts, with lots of fresh air too.

There isn’t any food at all (but what is that to you?)

 

When Obama comes to call upon Thein Sein, the boss,

We hope he will content himself with lighting up some joss.

Twould be bad manners to suggest that Myanmar reform

While Uncle Sam keeps Gitmo open as a tropic dorm.
